You were born out of love of your mother and father. Before he was accepted, your father has to court your mother for months and even years, spend a lot of money, effort and time before the answer “yes” was received. They have to know each other better for a happier union. And they spend $30,000 to $50,000 dollars for a wedding ceremony with your relatives and their friends present. Then again when you were born, a baptism costing thousands of dollars, a shower party and a birthday party every year specially for you. To them you were a special blessing from the Almighty.
Out of millions of sperms from your father during their love making, you were chosen to be conceived and be born so that you can feel, see, hear and witness the wonders, beauty and greatness of God via his creations every day of your life. And to share in his love and glory, and contribute to that greatness. God choose you to be born in his own time, not yours, in his own place. It was His mission, not yours. You did not wish nor choose to be born. And so you were chosen to find your Moms ovum or egg cell. And together they fertilized and started to grow. All the parts of your body were in those two tiny cells joined together by the hands of God to be unique and different from everybody else yet with commonality with others. Unlike cars, robots and other man made machines whose parts were manufactured separately and then assembled together, all your vital organs were in those small cells and grew a million times its size which shows you are a living being. Out of one insignificant microscopic sperm and ovum when put together you multiplied rapidly into millions of cells nurtured by food, sunlight, air, water and other nutrients and became a huge human being that you are today. You are God’s masterpiece of creation.
You inherited many of the features of your mother, father and grandparents, even the color of your skin, eyes, attitude, character, and talents yet significantly different.
God gave you parents, relatives and friends who acted as your angels to take care of your needs for years from infancy up to the time you were old enough to take care of your needs. They accepted you for what you were. You were given teachers to teach you the knowledge of the world, to guide you to your destiny and mission, lead you and protect you when in danger. You did not grow up alone.
He made you among the highest form of animals, second only to the angels. We were given a body and a soul so that we can live forever even after death. If you are baptised a Christian, and believes in Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit is send to you to protect you, enlighten and guide you from harm and bad decisions. You have the highest form of intelligence, talents and gifts. You are given dominion over all the earth and its creatures. He gave you a chance to be his follower, martyr, saint and even gave you a choice to follow Him or go against His wishes.
Thousands of soldiers have sacrificed their lives to let you live and give you freedom. Other people were born as slaves all their lives. Lapu Lapu and other brave Filipinos fought for you. Dr. Jose Rizal and other martyrs like Andres Bonifacio, Gregorio H. del Pilar, Benigno Aquino choose to suffer and to die to free you from slavery, ignorance, injustice or poverty.
As a Christian, Christ sacrificed his life to redeem you from sin and ignorance. Before he left, he assured us that he will send the Holy Spirit to enlighten us, guide and protect us and give us gift of wisdom, healing, even a gift of tongue if you accept him in your life.
The Spaniards traveled from Spain to North America by boat in the 15th century and then to the East to spread Christianity. We are the only Christian nation in Asia so that you can spread Christ into the whole world. Filipinos are now the new wandering Jews being spread all over the world to preach Christianity in words, thought and example.
In spite of thousands of applicants all over the world, you were accepted as immigrant, caregiver or temporary worker in Canada to enjoy His blessings of a free medical care, some free early education, a great freedom, the right to vote and be voted upon, a great pension plan on your retirement. Even those who did not work here are assured of Guaranteed Income Supplement, a kind of old age pension. He loved you that much, without working so hard for Him. To some it is paradise.
You were born of later years so that you can do what other great men failed to do, to make this world a better place.
God loved you so much that He gave you everything you needed to survive – talents, faculties, organs to live and enjoy life, to experience love, joy, success, pain, suffering, greed, gluttony, failure, hunger and even orgasm and you gave him nothing in return. He gave you a brain for intellect, wisdom, knowledge, foresight, insight and vision, eyes to see, ears to hear, hands to get and give things, feet to go anywhere you want to go. He gave you feelings so that you can feel love, pain, fear, anxiety, hate, hunger etc. And he will give you death so as not to continuously struggle and release you from pain or suffering. Most of the things you need were already here before you were born or can be made in your lifetime by you and others. You are interdependent with others, yet you can also survive alone by yourself.
God in his goodness did not just made you into a grain of sand or a piece of dirt without life. He did not make you an ant or a bee to serve the queen or live only for a few days or months. He did not make you into a tree or a vegetable that stays in one place and then to be used as firewood or freeze during winter. You can travel the whole world to experience the wonders and beauty He created if you wish. He did not make you into a chicken or a cow to be slaughtered and eaten, nor a dog to be a loyal pet to his master or be kicked.
God gave us dominion over the earth and all the living creatures. But in spite of our powers and responsibilities he also showed us our smallness compared to the galaxies and universe before us to teach us humility and give us a challenge to conquer space. As Kahlil Gibran said, “We are but mere atoms in the firmament of the universe.”
In spite of all our talents and knowledge, He did not give us everything so that we will not claim to be gods ourselves. We might be better than others in knowledge, talents, health, wealth and power, but we should remember that everyone was given a talent and that we can’t belittle others who are less than us. That we are here to help them survive or improve, not to mock, belittle or use them for our own selfish ends.
You were given one of the most complicated brain to imagine things you can do, and create wonderful things never seen or imagined by others, or destroy things and people in the most unimaginable way, strength to carry weight. Thousands of the organs in your body are complex and has its functions to help you. Only a great loving God, more intelligent than man can create them.
You have no control of the world around you. We do not control our lives, not even our breath or the beating of our hearts. We are not the master of this universe. We are mere witnesses of Gods power and glory. And yet some of us try to control the lives of others and even the world.
You were given 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. You can use it to earn money, or waste it playing pokemon, computer games, watching TV talking to friends and loved ones or use it to party, go to fiestas and concerts or doing something good, bad or just waste it for your own selfish purpose or be bored. He will let you live up to 80 up to even more than 100 years depending on how you take care of yourself and live your life, what you eat, exercise and what vices you acquire. You can waste it by being an alcoholic, drug addict, be a criminal and go to jail all your life or be killed in accidents. You can even end it by committing suicide.
You are a unique creation of God, different and the only one among the billions of His creation.
God put you in the right place at the right time, a jewel more precious than gold, platinum, silver or bronze. God created and took care of you for a great purpose and mission, bigger than yourself, to make this world and all the universe above you a better place. You are not born only for yourself. If you were, you are nothing.
Life is precious but fragile. You can die with a single bullet or a stabbing of a knife. Even an overdose of a drug can kill you. You can die of a heart attack anytime, or a stroke, from high blood or cancer. You should take care of your life, the intricate body, soul and spirit and the lives of your loved ones and other human beings. In fact you should take care of all God’s creation and its environment for they are as fragile as your life.
Inspite of all his gifts to you, He gave you freewill to either worship and thank him or deny his existence or worship yourself and other gods before you or even worship money if you wish. That is how much He loves you. He gave you freewill so that you can choose between good or evil and distinguish which is right and wrong. He made you experience the wonderful life and death. You can choose to be a voice in the wilderness like John de Baptist, be another Christ to redeem the world from sin, be creative and built wondrous things or be destructive to your fellow beings and the world. You can create an atom bomb to destroy millions of lives and the world around you. You can create a hell or heaven for yourself and others.
Even our lowly nannies and caregivers are contributing to change the values and morals of the earth even among the royal and rich families, Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, atheists and none believers.
When you die, you can’t bring back material wealth you have worked for no matter how many millions you accumulate, all the mansions you have built or acquired or monuments you have built for yourself nor all your great achievements. What you leave in this world will even be fought over by your children. What is important is what you did for the poor, the disabled, the needed and the weak. Christ said, “Whatever you did to the least of my brethren, you did to me.” Christ also warned us not to accumulate material wealth but good deeds which will be rewarded in heaven.
In the end, you will be made to account for your time on earth, what you did or failed to do. You can make this world a heaven or a hell depending on your thoughts, words and actions.
God has everything and he does not really need us. He only expect us to be faithful to him and to show our gratitude by praising Him, following his commandments and taking care of his poor creations. Learn therefore to treasure your life and the lives of others around you for you are very special.
