Volleyball stalwart Alyssa Valdez of Creamline Cool Smashers heads the list of national women’s volleyball team pool announced by the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc. (LVPI) on Wednesday.
F2 Logistics middle blocker Abigail Maraño was the first player to snag a spot in the 20-member training pool after getting named as the team captain a few days ago.
Also tapped to join are UAAP MVP Jaja Santiago and Dindin Santiago-Manabat of Foton Tornadoes, Myla Pablo of Pocari Sweat-Air Force, Cha Cruz of F2 Logistics, MJ Phillips of Sta. Lucia Realty, Christine Joy Rosario of Foton and Mika Reyes of Petron.
Four setters are listed namely Kim Fajardo (F2 Logistics), Jia Morado (Creamline), Rhea Dimaculangan (Petron) and Rebecca Rivera (Sta. Lucia Realty).
The liberos, meanwhile, are Dawn Macandili (F2 Logistics) and Denden Lazaro (Cocolife).
Other members of the pool are Mylene Paat (Cignal HD), Maika Ortiz (Foton), Ces Molina (Petron) and Majoy Baron (F2 Logistics).
Newly-tapped head coach Shaq Delos Santos will handle the preparations with assistant mentors KungFu Reyes and Brian Esquivel.
LVPI will soon announce the 14 players who will consist the final lineup for the 2018 Asian Games slated in August in Palembang and Jakarta, Indonesia.
Besides the Asiad, the national squad will also participate in the Asian Women’s Volleyball Cup in September in Thailand and the 2019 Southeast Asian Games that will be hosted by the Philippines.
The team is set to join the Philippine Superliga Invitational Conference, which fires off on June 23.
The national volleyball governing body is in talks with the Premier Volleyball League as well for a possible participation in the league’s next conference.
