Late evening on November 7, blind items began circulating online about a young actor from a well-known showbiz family who attempted suicide using a Swiss knife.
With hardly any clue to the boy’s identity, Philippine Entertainment Portal’s (PEP.Ph) Arniel Serato finally broke the news on Thursday that the subject is 23-year-old Diego Loyzaga, son of actor and disgraced Tourism Promotions Board COO Cesar Montano and his former actress-girlfriend Teresa Loyzaga.
Based on the report, the unfortunate incident took place on Tuesday night when members of the Loyzaga household overheard an anxious Diego telling someone over the phone that he was OK and “kaya pa.”
Upon checking on the young actor, however, he was seen trying to slit his neck using a Swiss knife at which point his housemates called emergency paramedics who immediately put Diego under first aid procedures.
The medical personnel on site waited for Diego to calm down before taking him to St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City, where he is said to be in stable condition.
As of press time, Montano and Loyzaga have yet to issue official statements regarding the matter with only Diego’s talent management group, Star Magic, replying to The Manila Times’ request for further details on the young ABS-CBN talent.
In a text message, Star Magic public relations head Thess Gubi simply stated, “Diego and family are doing fine and are requesting for privacy.”
Since joining showbiz, Diego has successfully carved a name for himself outside those of his famous parents with notable performances in ABS-CBN shows. He received positive reviews as David in the series remake of “Pangako Sa ‘Yo,” and as poet Rommel Angara in the highly-rated “Maalala Mo Kaya,” episode “Pasa” (Bruise).
He has also starred in the lead role of several youth oriented movies including “Mama’s Girl” (Regal Entertainment) and “Bloody Crayons” (Star Cinema).
Showing much spunk in his acting, netizens and some showbiz critics have refered to him as the “male and new generation version” of multi-awarded actress Maricel Soriano.
While Diego, who has stayed with mom Teresa all through growing up, he had said in previous interviews that he and his dad have been reconnecting and spending time with each other. It is common knowledge in showbiz circles, however, that Loyzaga and Montano have not been on speaking terms for a very long time.
Diego’s last known relationship was with love team mate Sofia Andres who said back in May that she and the actor are “civil” with one another.
