The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) on January 16 to strengthen the promotion of Filipino cinema.
The MOU signing, led by NCCA Chairman National Artist Virgilio Almario, MTRCB Chairperson Maria Rachel Arenas, and MTRCB Board Members Elizabeth Rose Siguion-Reyna, Jeremiah Jaro and Ma. Gabriela Concepcion, took place at the MTRCB Office in Timog, Quezon City.
The MOU shall enable all films endorsed by the NCCA Committee on Cinema to get 70 percent discount in their MTRCB permit, which will be good for five years, and allow NCCA to facilitate and issue exhibition permits in all NCCA-funded film festivals and other supported public screenings applicable for exemption.
MTRCB is a government agency under the Office of the President of the Philippines under the Presidential Decree no. 1986, which regulates and classifies motion pictures, television programs, and publicity materials. It also promotes an environment leading to authentic and responsible self-regulation in the television and film industry.
