Walk the path of the royals of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros
For diehard fans of HBO’s epic series “The Game of Thrones,” travel may be a way to counter withdrawal symptoms what with actual tours available today designed around the television phenomenon, which aired its final episode on May 19.
Based on the best-selling medieval fantasy book series book series “A Song of Ice and Fire” by George R. R. Martin, GoT as the show if fondly called depicted two powerful families of kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars and honest men playing a deadly game to control the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros and sit atop the Iron Throne. To bring the story to life, location shoots took place in Northern Ireland, Malta, Croatia and Spain.
Travel booking platform Klook provides The Manila Times Lifestyle with the lineup of tours now available to give travelers a glimpse into the awe-inspiring world of Westeros below.
As a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) World Heritage site, Dubrovnik’s Old Town as setting for King’s Landing was quite understandable for the show creators. The culturally rich medieval town hosted the show’s main plotline, the glory of the Iron Throne, and some of the series most crucial moments, including Queen Cersei’s walk of atonement.
In the new “Game of Thrones” Filming Locations Tour, fans are brought through the halls of the Lovrijenac Fortress, the Trsteno Arboretum and the Lokrum Island. Meanwhile, the new Cruise and Walking Tour allows travelers to embark on Daenerys Targaryen’s ship upon the Adriatic Sea with a Dragon Blood cocktail in hand.
Additionally, thrill-seekers can explore Dubrovnik’s less-frequented alleyways on the Legends Evening Walking Tour, led by an engaging tour guide with a wealth of local insights and secrets about the show.
Beyond Dubrovnik, “Game of Thrones” fanatics can indulge in the fantastical world of the kingdom of Dorne in the Spanish Cathedral, Alcazar and Giralda Guided Tour.
Known in the real world as Seville, the tour includes a visit to the home of the House of Martell.
Alternatively, a trip to Northern Iceland offers guests a unique opportunity to see that Grjótagjá Rift. The Lake Mývatn Hike and Bath Tour includes a visit to where Jon Snow took a faithful leap to break his celibacy on a romantic rendezvous with Ygritte.
