Romantic drama “Hello, Love, Goodbye” is officially a box office hit. On Monday, Star Cinema announced that the Kathryn Bernardo-Alden Richards starrer has raked in over P500 million at the box office, and is still going cha-ching as it goes into its third domestic week and prominently screens in key cities around the globe.
Besides its commercial success, the Cathy Garcia-Molina movie — which follows the love story of OFWs Joy and Ethan in Hong Kong amid the complicated lives and issues Filipino immigrants and domestic helpers often face — also serves as a case study for the industry on the huge potential of mixing up talents from rival networks what with ABS-CBN’s Bernardo and GMA Network’s Richards reigniting the movie-goer’s interest in Filipino films. For take note, Hello, Love, Goodbye (HLG) continues to be shown on multiple screens within a single cinema complex even as it goes into its third week tomorrow. It may not have conquered all cinema screens like the “Avengers” movies do, but it’s a very encouraging turning point.
Happily, the entertainment beat can report that another network crossover will unfold on the big screen after HLG with the other half of Richards’ GMA Network and “Eat Bulaga” loveteam “AlDub” starring in a movie with a long-time ABS-CBN actor.
Young movie company Black Sheep Productions announced in late June that Maine Mendoza and Carlo Aquino have agreed to pair up in a romantic-drama titled “Isa Pa With Feelings.” Directed by Prime Cruz, early production notes simply describe the movie as “a story of two broken people who find each other.”
With its date of release still to be announced, both Mendoza and Aquino have eagerly talked about their project whenever they come across interviews with showbiz press.
The Manila Times ran a story on Aquino’s upcoming concert last week where he talked about working with Mendoza, while a few days later, the paper also met with the leading lady during her contract renewal for feminine product Betadine Fresh Bliss.
Likewise, Mendoza expressed excitement over the crossover project.
“Nakakatuwa kasi parang magkakasundo kami, feeling ko we won’t have a hard time making this film,” she added, sheepishly admitting on the side she actually had a childhood crush on her new leading man.
“Wala pa kaming target release date pero masaya kasi I will get to work with new people. Exciting kasi yung lumalawak yung mundo mo sa showbiz.”
Naturally, the question that followed was whether Mendoza feels any pressure over the record-breaking success of crossover precursor HLB.
Confidently, the noontime show and sitcom star replied, “Honestly, walang pressure.
Just like Richards, the 24-year-old star expressed interest to do more projects outside the AlDub love team and GMA Network talents. She even said she’d like to look beyond ABS-CBN actors and simply work with as many different talents as possible.
AlDub will stay
All the same, with the various career directions she and Richards are taking, Mendoza assures AlDub fans that their team up is not going end.
“Nandiyan pa din naman po ang AlDub dahil every day naman kami sa Eat Bulaga and wala namang announcement na pinaghihiwalay kami or anything. Pero siyempre, ang nangyayari sa career ko ngayon, I consider it refreshed because nag-gro-grow din ako as a person, as a host, as an actress and as a celebrity.
“Kasi tulad ng sinasabi ko, hindi kasi tayo pwede mag-stay lang sa isang place, because at a certain point in our life, kailangan natin mag-grow and mag-move forward.”
In ending, Mendoza graciously reiterated her support for Richards’ movie with Bernardo.
