MANILA, Philippines — Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla will take his oath today as the new interior secretary, according to his elder brother, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla.
“I think he’s withdrawing from candidacy as we speak,” the elder Remulla said yesterday.
The Cavite governor’s appointment “can improve the justice system” since the coordination between the justice and interior departments will be better, Remulla said.
Training of police officers and prosecutors could be accelerated to further strengthen coordination and case build-up, the justice secretary said.
The younger Remulla will replace Benhur Abalos, who has filed his certificate of candidacy for senator in the 2025 midterm polls.
Abalos resigned from his post as interior secretary after formalizing his bid for a senatorial seat.
