Reds on a roll

With its armed component, the New People’s Army decimated by massive defections due to the localized peace process, the CPP is shifting to the legal arena through the legislature to propagate their revolutionary ideology.

Having spread their wings in the House of Representatives, through the Quadcomm inquisition court, representatives of communist fronts are now targeting the Senate.

Thus, voters should be forewarned about the so-called “Taumbayan sa Senado” (The People in the Senate) which is dominated by sympathizers and members of the communist movement.

The lineup includes ACT Teachers Rep. France Castro, Gabriela Rep. Arlene Brosas, Kilusang Mayo Uno secretary-general Jerome Adonis, former Gabriela Rep. Liza Maza, and former Bayan Muna Reps. Teddy Casiño and Neri Colmenares.

These individuals have strong links to the National Democratic Front (NDF), which has under its wing the mainstream organizations of the Communist Party of the Philippines.

With its armed component, the New People’s Army (NPA), decimated by massive defections due to the localized peace process, the CPP is shifting to the legal arena through the legislature to propagate their revolutionary ideology.

The probe into the confidential and intelligence funds (CIF) of the Department of Education when Vice President Sara Duterte was its head was initiated by the left-wing party-listers since the CIF would fund operations against infiltrators on campuses who recruit members for the radical group.

Senator Bato dela Rosa, a former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, said the intention of the DepEd to rid schools of communist cadres had given the Makabayan bloc nightmares.

“The CIF will be used against them, those recruiting the youth in the schools,” he said.

Proof that some Senate wannabes in the House are cohorts of the NPA is found in the long list of testimonies the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) collected from CPP converts.

Former leaders of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) confirmed that some members of the Makabayan bloc who are the Kabataan, Anakbayan, Bayan Muna, ACT and Gabriela lawmakers hold positions in the CPP.

Former CPP official Jeffrey Celis, alias Ka Eric, confirmed that Makabayan chairperson Satur Ocampo, Colmenares, Masa, and Casiño were frequently seen during Regional Committee meetings of the CPP-NPA-NDF.

“We can look them directly in the eye,” Celiz said, referring to the Senate aspirants.

He talked of three levels of CPP-NPA-NDF meetings.

“They have L1, L2, and L3 meetings. At L1, or level 1, the meeting is open to the masses. Level 2 is a meeting among representatives of underground groups, while Level 3 is for the top CPP officials,” Celiz said.

Celiz said the partylist representatives were key elements of the communist movement since they provide legal support for the armed struggle.

Alma Gabin, the former education deputy secretary of the Eastern Visayas Regional Party Committee and founding member of the Kabataan party-list, said her stint in the CPP-NPA-NDF even made her a nominee of the leftist youth group in 2010.

Gabin recalled that the person who recruited her during her college days was the same person who took her to an oath-taking as a CPP member.

The legal and armed struggles are inter-connected as they both serve the ultimate aim of replacing the democratic government with a communist state.

The testimonies jibe with what members of the Makabayan bloc are doing in the Quadcomm and other House functions.

Joy Saguino, alias Ka Amihan, former secretary of Guerrilla Front 20, Sub-Regional Committee 1, SMRC and former youth and student organizer of the Anakbayan and Kabataan partylist groups, said the Makabayan bloc provides cover for underground operations such as the maintenance of communist-linked schools like Salugpungan and the Mindanao Interfaith Services Foundation Inc. (MISFI).

The leftist lawmakers are also the main conduit of the NDF for securing funding and support from international organizations.

The Makabayan bloc is rebuilding the NPA network that was demolished by the coordinated programs of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the government.

Infiltrating the Senate would be their next target, after which the logical higher path would lead to Malacañang.

The Makabayan bloc was able to co-opt the House, emboldening the Left to think they could occupy and achieve their objectives without firing a single shot.
