Korean drama “Queen of Tears” star Kim Soo-hyun admitted dating the late actress Kim Sae-ron but said it was only when she became an adult.
The actor, through his agency, Gold Medalist, released a statement on March 14, earlier than it originally promised, to refute the allegations and claims by YouTube channel HoverLab, which presented details, letter, postcard, and photos.
“We were planning to announce our position next week based on evidence that can refute Garosero Research Institute’s report. Mr. Kim Soo-hyun showed signs of rapid psychological instability this morning, so we had to urgently distribute a statement,” it said.

HoverLab presented two photos of Kim Soo-hyun kissing Kim Sae-ron, stating that she was still a minor when he started dating her.
Gold Medalist refuted this, saying, “Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Sae-ron dated from the summer of 2019 to the fall of 2020. It is not true that Kim Soo-hyun dated Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor.”
In March last year, Kim Sae-ron uploaded a photo of her and Kim Soo-hyun posing cheek-to-cheek, which spawned rumors that they were dating.
Gold Medalist at the time denied this, saying, “We would like to inform you that Kim Soo-hyun’s dating rumors are unfounded. The photos that are spread online appear to have been taken when they were in the same agency in the past, and the intention of Kim Sae-ron’s actions is unknown.”
Now, Kim Soo-hyun finally admitted that he dated Kim Sae-ron.
In the latest statement, Gold Medalist said, “The photo that Kim Sae-ron revealed on her Instagram story in the early morning of March 24, 2024 and the photo that was revealed on the Garosero Research Institute broadcast on March 11, 2025 are both private photos of the two who were dating on the same day in the winter of 2020.”
“The clothes that Kim Sae-ron was wearing at the time were clothes released by a brand in June 2019, so Garosero Research Institute’s claim that the photo was taken in 2016 when Kim Sae-ron was a minor is impossible to establish,” it said.
HoverLab earlier presented a message written by Kim Sae-ron in which she said her relationship with Kim Soo-hyun was from 2015 to 2021.
“The photo posted in the story is from 2016, and the relationship lasted from November 19, 2015 to July 7, 2021. I am 16 years old and my partner is 30 years old. That was it. That’s how the six-year relationship ended,” she wrote. Kim Soo-hyun was 27 at the time.
HoverLab said Kim Sae-ron kept a diary where she wrote the dates of the start and end of her relationship.
Gold Medalist also stated that “the other photo that Garosero Research Institute revealed on March 12, 2025 was taken by the two on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2019, and we have the metadata for said photo.”
After Gold Medalist released the statement, Garosero Research Institute held a live broadcast on YouTube and released another photo of Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Sae-ron together.
Because of the accusations, Kim Soo-hyun has already lost 781,851 followers on Instagram from March 10 to 14. From 21,263,988 followers on March 9, the total decreased to 20,482,137 on March 14, according to analytics website Social Blade. — Jonathan Hicap
