AMID ongoing debates about the impact of fake news, Untold, the new summer horror film starring Jodi Sta. Maria, comes as a timely reminder of the dangers of misinformation.
Directed by Derick Cabrido, the film explores the consequences of spreading false narratives, a subject that is more relevant than ever in today’s media landscape.
At the media launch of the movie on March 31 at Valencia Events Place in Quezon City, Jodi joined co-star Gloria Diaz in discussing the film’s central theme. While the former Miss Universe set the conversation with her cryptic comments about Jodi being “a woman in love,” the actress shifted the focus back to the movie, skillfully steering the conversation away from her personal life.

Untold tells the story of a character who becomes entangled in the dangerous world of fake news. Jodi’s role as a key player in this dark narrative reflects the growing problem of misinformation in our society. The movie’s message resonates with her as an actress, and she emphasized how important it is for audiences to pay attention to what they consume in the media.
“The film’s message speaks volumes, especially now, with how rampant fake news has become,” Jodi said. “If this movie can pique the interest of people, or perhaps even stir their conscience, then we’ve done something meaningful.”

The actress, who has consistently avoided discussing her love life in public, redirected questions about her personal relationships to emphasize the relevance of the film’s message.
“We need to focus on what’s happening around us,” she added. “Fake news isn’t something we can simply ignore. It’s affecting lives, and it’s time for everyone to take responsibility.”
Jodi’s character in Untold serves as a stark reminder of how misinformation can spread unchecked and the consequences it can have on individuals and society. With the film’s release coinciding with the country’s ongoing struggle against disinformation, she hopes it will encourage the public to assess the information they encounter more critically.

“The message here is that we need to be more careful with what we read and share. Some things may seem true, but they aren’t. And sometimes, a lie is cleverly mixed with the truth, making it harder to spot,” Jodi said.
As the Philippines continues to confront the challenges of fake news, Jodi believes the role of the government and media is crucial.
“The government needs to step up and protect people from the harm caused by fake news,” she affirmed. “It’s also our duty as individuals to fact-check and be responsible with the information we share.”
For Jodi, Untold is also a call to action. “We all have a role to play in combating fake news,” she said. “Let’s make sure we’re informed and that we’re doing our part to stop the spread of harmful lies.”
Produced by Regal Entertainment, Untold is set to open in cinemas nationwide on April 30. The film also stars Juan Karlos Labajo, Kaori Oinuma, Lianne Valentin, Gloria Diaz, TJ Valderrama, Joem Bascon, Mylene Dizon, Sarah Edwards, Gian Magdangal, Miggs Cuaderno, Carlo San Juan, Ge Villamil, Lui Manansala, Frances Makil, Angel Raymundo, Francis Mata, Angie Castrence, Lotlot Bustamante, and Elyson De Dios.
