MANILA, Philippines — People can expect a more accessible way of crossing EDSA in Kamuning once the construction of the new footbridge in the area is completed by yearend, the Department of Transportation said.
The DOTr led on Thursday the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the footbridge that will replace the old one, dubbed “Mt. Kamuning” because it was overly steep, which President Marcos had ordered removed.
With a budget of P89.13 million, the project also covers the rehabilitation of the busway station in Kamuning.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said the project is scheduled to be finished by December.
If things go as planned, commuters will be able to use the new footbridge and renovated station during the Christmas rush.
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte views the new footbridge as a win for the city, as she pushes for inclusive mobility by enhancing the accessibility features of transport systems.
As designed, the footbridge features elevators on both ends, making it accessible for all pedestrians, including persons with disabilities.
In June, Marcos ordered Dizon to rebuild the Kamuning footbridge, which is as tall as a five-story building.
