Rice inventories grow by 30%, officials say

Officials of the National Food Authority (NFA) and the Ginintuang Masaganang Ani (GMA) rice program reported that the country’s rice inventories for the dry-season harvests totaled 1.943 million metric tons, or 30 percent higher than last year’s stocks during the same period.

The dry season in the Philippines traditionally covers April, May and June.

Larger breasts increase risk of diabetes

Young women with larger than average breasts may have a higher risk of developing diabetes, a new study shows according to agencies.

Researchers who studied over 90,000 women found those with above-average bra sizes at the age of 20 were up to 80 per cent more likely to get the disease than those with smaller breasts.

RP education in very bad shape, admits DepEd chief

Education Secretary Jesli Laous admitted yesterday that the quality of education in the country has sunk to its lowest level even as he pointed out that it was the Department of Education that raised the alarm in 2006.

“The problem is systemic. The entire system is(seriously affected),” said the DepEd chief, reacting to President Macapagal-Arroyo’s admission that the state of education continued to worsen during a consultative meeting in Baguio City Monday.
