PHIL-CAN "Junior NBA Clinic" a big hit

On November 11, 2007, Phil-Can opened its basketball clinic to the community at Mother Teresa Catholic School in Scarborough. Approximately 100 kids registered this year. The Club divided them into two age groups, namely: 5 to 9 years of age (session from 9 to 10:30 am) and 10 to 13 years of age (10:30 am to 12 noon). Seasoned professional basketball clinic ins-tructors were hired this year headed by Steve Alleyne from the Ontario Basketball Association (OBA), Phil Cristi from the YMCA and Bobby Roberto, former standout player for Mother Teresa High School and Raul Porcincola, a Letran College alumni. Practice t-shirts were provided to the young players courtesy of JesseJr. Restaurant.

CKaTT Team in Florida

CKaTT ‘s Bantam Boys team is going down in Florida, to participate on 11th annual AAU Disney’s Easter Classic Basketball Tournament to be held on March 20 to March 26 at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida. There will be total of 95 teams from different States competing in this event.

Pinoy in Beijing picked to carry Olympic torch

BEIJING – A Filipino marketing manager working in Beijing and an American who works with Chinese orphans are among eight foreigners in China who have been picked to join the 2008 Beijing Olympic torch relay across the country, organizers said.

The runners were picked from among 262 applicants in a contest organized by Chinese computer maker and Olympic sponsor Lenovo Group and the government newspaper China Daily. Each will carry the torch for 200 meters on Chinese soil.

Boxing is RP’s best hope for Olympic medal

MANILA – Boxing will most likely give the Philippines its first Olympic gold medal.

Anthony Villanueva at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and Mansueto “Onyok” Velasco at the 1996 Atlanta Games both won silvers.

Cely Villanueva (1932 Los Angeles), Leopoldo Serantes (1988 Seoul) and Roel Velasco (1992 Barcelona) delivered bronze medals.
