Unwanted travellers
Friday, 08.27.2010, 08:41am

A ship full of foreigners has landed on Canada’s west coast, and has stirred up a lot of attention and controversy in doing so. Many people, including the government, seem very quick to condemn those in the ship as criminals (organized crime), terrorists (members of the Tamil Tigers), or abusers of our immigration system.

The importance of family budget to your financial health
Monday, 07.26.2010, 10:08pm
Financial independence is not a result of earning big income. There are many people who earn five figures monthly and yet they are living on a hand to mouth existence. No saving,  they are loaded with debts and hounded by creditors and collection agents.

Major changes to Canada immigration effective June 26, 2010
Sunday, 07.25.2010, 10:48pm
The expression “sooner rather than later” has been my motto for Canada Immigration applicants for years. The reason is that the Canadian Federal Government often changes its immigration rules without notice. A few years back, not only did Canada change its immigration rules upon a federal election it went one step further and made them retroactive to applicants already in the pipeline. That being said, it is important for applicants to apply as soon as they are qualified and to not wait until a future date – or else they may be disappointed later.
P- Noy and the Philippines Hope
Sunday, 07.25.2010, 10:44pm
Keeping tabs of the elections and the quick proclamation of a president in the Philippines first ever computerized elections – we have a new President who prefers to be called P-Noy. Brought into office under the promise of not stealing the coffers and raising the Filipinos hope for change – similar to that promised by President Obama. Our new Philippine President Benigno Aquino III is the new hope of our motherland.
Processing times for Canadian work permits
Sunday, 07.25.2010, 10:39pm
The Manila visa office is painfully slow in processing work permit applications. Given that so many Canadians rely upon Filipinos workers, and so many Filipinos are keen to get Canadian jobs, this is a real problem for both sides.
I'll Lie on July
Sunday, 07.25.2010, 10:11pm
Well,  we  were  all  born in in the juicy month of July, with the crabby Cancer as our  zodiac  star.  the  horrible  horoscope,  dutifully  dictate, that we are a bunch of intelligent, sensitive, caring and beautiful. I say amen , to that but pray  tell me if its true ! Apparently, birthdays means another number rack-up and  since im in constant state of denial, I always lie on July. if queried on my  natal date. Beside, asking people their birthdays is the height of tacky-ness  and in polite society, that is not simply being done..Growing old gracefully !  are  you  kidding  me  !  I intend to fight it every pores along the way.
The importance of Life Insurance
Sunday, 06.27.2010, 09:32pm
Good financial planning includes regular savings for the future to avoid financial trouble down the road. In fact, 21:20 of the book of Proverbs says, “The wise man saves for the future…” It is our common belief that financial crisis comes when a person has no job, no source of income, or when there is a recession.
The Megaworld Phenomenon!!!
Sunday, 06.27.2010, 09:13pm
Megaworld - " mega" - enormous, large, huge, humongous and added to the word World.......means large scale world or area...
Creditably, the largest Philippine real estate developer with over 33 simultaneous condos under construction in Metro Manila is no mean feat. Not counting itsdevelopment of homes in Cavite and Laguna.
The June Join-Fun
Sunday, 06.27.2010, 11:45am
The recent James Taylor-Carole King road show that billed Toronto as their only Canadian tour stop was a resounding success. The cavernous Air Canada Center was literally pack to its rafter of 18,000 fans who were blessed to be part of an iconic, historic, pop concert. I might had been seated in Siberia, blamed it on last minute decision, thus the premium seats been plucked, sold out so many moons ago. Nevertheless, I was utterly thrilled to be a part of that evening 70's musicale magna-supra-mega stars show.
Retirement is like hell if you still have a big mortgage
Friday, 05.28.2010, 10:39pm
After working for so many years, it is every body's dream to retire, and live a relax and happy life, for there is no more waking up early in the morning to go to work rain, shine or snow to make a living. It is a common anticipation that once a person retires, it is like heaven for even without working, your pension money would be electronically deposited to your bank account.

A mixture, medley, motley - as Halu-Halo implies in the Filipino lingo.
A party, a get together - as Salu-Salo means in the Filipino language.

How, was mother;s day , dear readers ! Well, moi, since I'm now an orphaned like little Annie, I joined the wonderful Litigio Family, to visit the grave of the dear departed Nang Helen Enerio Litigio. We placed bunch of yellow roses, Nang Helen favorite color- for Hope. A short visit to the Philippines every now and then after living in Toronto for almost 14 years, one cannot help but be observant. Election campaigning is on full steam. As many say, we Filipinos live and breathe politics.

The Canadian government is proposing changes to the refugee process. These changes are not law yet.
The stated purpose of these changes is to speed up the refugee process, so that decisions are made more quickly and, if refused, the failed claimant is deported from Canada earlier.
Hearts and Minds Strengthen the Filipino Spirit
Sunday, 04.25.2010, 08:45pm
When Mila sends an invitation to a gathering or for a cause, the members of the Filipino-Canadian community in Iqaluit respond with gusto. Tall and imposing, Mila is de facto one of the leaders of the community. While there appears to be no urgency or need to formalize the Filipinos as an association, the organizing that takes place gives the impression that there is one.
