Jenerose and Danny Ramo partyin BramptonJenerose ably assisted by her loving, good looking husband Danny celebrated her natal day at their beautiful residence. Her myriad friends and relations, were all out in a festive mood, in the well attended party. Added bonus for the guests was the chance to watch live on the wide screen plasma TV, the much heralded boxing match of Manny Pacquiao against his British challenger Ricky Hatton. As we all know by now, the furious fist of the Pinoy Boxer, has crowned him at the most exciting thing to happen to boxing, in a long, long time, as what major sports commentator has touted. I felt sad, viewing the grief-stricken wife of the challenger, who obviously was dolled up for the event complete with an elaborate hair-do.
Jenerose party, was bursting with the excited shouts as Pacquiao, demolished a world-class fighter, who has never lost at his natural weight of 140 pounds. Much of the talks, after the fight, was about Manny money matters. How much will the new King of Boxing will amass in millions of dollars and exactly convert it to Philippine pesos. Will it amount to billions of pesos? Wow! One said," I might as well go home to Dadiangas, the old name of Manny’s Home town to work as their personal maid." One snooty guest commented 'Have you seen the make-over look of Manny's mother done in Vegas no less, another pooh-poohed Manny, should retire now , no more battering for the body ". another quipped," at least Manny’s money did not come from politics or drug dealing" Anyhow, I like what I saw on the boxing show, that night, considering the presence of the controversial Chavit Singson, on the arena, for the tumultous celebration.
I loved Manny who acts professionally in the bloody world of Boxing.
Letty Campos a real survivorLetty, originally hail from the deep south of Cotabato, in the big island of Mindanao. After earning a 4 year college course degree, she worked briefly for the local government. Lured by the prospect of fatter-income and a sense of adventure, she ventured to Hongkong, where she work amidst the thousand of college degree holders Filipinas, seeking employment in the once British Colony.
Then Letty, moved to Tel Aviv, Israel to earn Shekel- the country's currency. Along the way, she was part and parcel of the plethora of overseas Filipino workers, whose monthly remittances, made possible the Philippine economy to float, in these turbulent financial crisis. Then Canada, beckoned as herald by job recruiters, as the new land of promise. but one has to promised to pay a hefty placement fee, for their trouble , that normally becomes an ordeal to many care-givers. Letty survived, all the travels, travails and troubles and eventually thrive in her new home in towering Toronto the blue.
She is now the President of the Caregiver Association of the Kababayan Community Center with a strong solid membership. The group conducts seminars and lectures of their rights, they solved the usual problems experienced by these often abused and harassed workers, assist those who are terminated by their employers due to sickness and those release upon arrival, a major ploy perpetrated by some recruiting agencies. In short, Letty is just like the big sister, whom everyone runs for assistance and to cry on her heavy burdened shoulder.
The current spotlight of the plight of the Caregivers, has shed a ray of hope to this once neglected group. Now, armed with their new advocac , the Canadian Government, known for its compassion, has clearly shown the light. I hope springs eternal, that the Parliament hearing of the defiant "I Ruby Dhalla, has nothing to do with the hiring of these nannies" will be a sour thing of the past. Better yet, that TV scene of the crying Filipina nanny, saying "I don’t want to be deported to the Philippines" complete with a thick Bisayan accent, that you can slice with a sharp butcher knife, a never boob-tube scenario .Really , sad....
Martha Joy our heartfelt condolenceWe all knew, that our beloved Canadian Idol Martha Joy, has been making waves in the Philippine entertainment scene. Her TV hosting, countless appearances ahd records production , has been a highlight in the country's show-biz scenario. Recently, Martha Joy with her mother Sonia Lim and cousin Gabriel, also a fast rising talent in the show business firmament in Manila flew back to towering Toronto the blue, for the untimely demised of her beloved grandmother Consolacion.
Thus, all projects in the ever noble loyal city of Manila are on hold, as Martha Joy attends to a more clear picture of grieving the sudden loss of a grandma who was a part and always be in her life. She will fly back to Manila, to resume her skyrocketing career, once the mourning period is over and done.......
