Everyone Wins at UPAA Toronto’s Golf Tournament
Sunday, 06.27.2010, 08:11pm (GMT-5)

Blue skies and temperatures that hovered at 30° Celsius accompanied 124 golfers throughout the day at Brampton’s Lionhead Golf and Country Club on the occasion of the recently concluded Tee UP High charity golf tournament hosted by the University of the Philippines Alumni Association of Toronto (UPAAT).

The tournament culminated with the foursome of UP alumni Ray Sabatin and his friends, Jai Pal, Tony Wong, and John Haggerty, claiming the championship trophy with a combined score of 59.

Close behind them were the foursome of Aurelio Sienes, Jr., Romie Lat, John Borromeo, and Charlie Borromeo with a score of 60.

UPAAT hosted the event to raise funds for needy but deserving students and for professorial chairs that would help retain valuable teachers at the UP.

UPAA Pres. Joe Zagala and Tournament Chairman Marilou Parcero were smiling and thanking everybody at the dinner party that followed the tournament, visibly pleased for the huge turnout of players, sponsors, and volunteers.

Individual trophy winners were Jai Pal for the men’s longest drive, Freda de Jesus for the women’s longest drive, and Erik Galvez for the shot that was closest to the pin.  There was no winner for the women’s closest to the pin.

The rest of the players received various prizes for their participation.

The buffet dinner that followed after the tournament included a slide show of highlights shot during the day by the paparazzi team of former UPAA Pres. Geny Toribio, Ester Toribio, Jess Perucho, Rene Sevilla, Joanna Sevilla, and Romi Herrera.

Technical advisers were La Salle alumni Mars Cebrero and Tom Mascardo.

Volunteers included UPAA Vice-Pres. Fred Gamboa, Sherwin Dimaculangan, Chris Vasquez, Gilbert Esmele, Rey Formacion, former UPAA Pres. Bay Bernabe, former UPAA Pres. Noel Cruz, Delfin Palileo.

Emil Aguinaldo, Don Alinea, PAG Pres.  Omel Masalunga, PAG Past Pres. Romi MananQuil, Frank Cruzet, Gina Capistrano, Theresa Lumanlan, Gena Baldivia, Aleen Dimaculangan, Alice Herrera, Beth Vasquez, Joy Alinea, Fanny Calucag.
