Brightly lit and bearing images of cool blue aquatic scenery, the Philippines stood out as one of the largest foreign exhibitors in the three-day event held at the Sunshine City Convention Center in Ikebukuro, Tokyo.

RP woos more Taiwanese tourists

The Department of Tourism is expanding its reach to the Taiwan market, initiating exchanges with the travel trade players from the cities of Taipei, Kaohsiung and Taichung.

“Taiwan has traditionally been one of the Philippines’ major trading and investment partners,” noted Tourism Secretary Joseph “Ace” Durano. “Our strategy involves not only reinforcing our presence, but also offering something new and reaching out to travelers based outside Taipei.”

Tan to develop world-class resort and hotel in Palawan

Tobacco tycoon Lucio Tan is scouting for a huge property in Palawan to be developed into a world-class resort, MacroAsia Corp. president Joseph Chua said.

Chua told reporters Tan was keen on developing a world-class resort that would possibly contain a hotel to complement the ongoing development of the area. He said Tan was still looking for a potential site.

Banyan Tree to put up resort in Palawan

Singapore-based hotel and resorts firm Banyan Tree Holdings Ltd. will spend at least $70 million to establish two resorts in Palawan

In a briefing held in Malacańang yesterday, Banyan Tree Executive Chairman Ho Kwon Ping said the project would be executed through a joint venture with real estate and mining businessman Salvador B. Zamora II, who will serve as its developer.
