Three weeks to go and the 40 candidates of Bb. Pilipinas 2019 could not catch a breath!
Last week, the ladies were busy touring the headquarters of some of their sponsors, including PLDT in Makati City. There, they played games and mingled with the employees as early as 9 a.m. The ladies were already decked out in heels and pageant-ready faces with matching contact lens, hair volume, makeup and the works. It seems to be a daily thing for them now as the coronation night nears.
We got to interview a handful of the ladies and some frontrunners of the 56th edition, and everyone is in battle mode to win a crown. This year, the ladies are still vying for the big crowns in the pageant scene to be the country’s representative to the Miss Supranational, Miss Intercontinental, Miss International, Miss Globe, Miss Grand International and of course, Miss Universe, which thankfully is still under the wings of Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc.
Thanks to Catriona Gray, who is making waves abroad as the current Miss Universe, thanks to her hardhitting work for her advocacies and patriotism, the ladies are now more centered on that as well.
“More than anything, we can really say that Catriona raised the bar so high in the beauty pageant scene not just in the Philippines but in the world. She also championed patriotism with her wardrobe that now we take that into consideration as well with each decision that we make with regard to out performance,” Kapampangan representative beauty Emma Tiglao noted.
The candidates also reiterated that they are not at all pressured by the constant rankings by the pageant blogs on who they think will be part of the winning circle.
According to Malka Shaver, more than the crown, it is self-discovery for them as contestants to be the best version of themselves.
“We are enjoying every part of the journey and making friends as well. I think that is more important,” the pretty Zamboangueña said.
Hannah Arnold, who represents Masbate and has been a hot pick since the very beginning, said she is thankful for the recognition but she does not want it to get to her head.
“I am lucky to have been consistently a favorite from the start but I don’t let it get to me. I am more focused now on listening to the constructive pieces of advice I get from reading the blogs and applying them where I am able. At the end of the day, it is the judges who will decide who will be the winners,” she averred.
Though their schedules maybe taxing for the next three weeks, which will take them to Vigan and Boracay, the girls have conserved energy that will lead them to the big day at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. They even rounded up some unconventional beauty tips, that could be uncomfortable but they swear by when they have to go up on stage and strut their stuff.
“I put hairspray on my body and I use it as a highlighter, masakit siya pero nagtatagal. Nilalagay ko rin sa mukha ko as setting spray. Pero yung pinakasikreto, yung paglagay namin ng hairspray sa butt pag swimsuit competition para walang jiggle. It will hold your butt in place. Extra hold,” Bb. Batangas Alannis Reign Binoya was proud to share this pageantry secret.
Hannah Arnold said it’s her eyebrows that she preps before anything else, “I put castor oil at night for bushy brows and hair clay in the morning to make it stand up and thick because kilay is life.”
The next big event for the ladies is on May 25 for the Grand Parade of Beauties as they go around Araneta Center. On May 29, the ladies will be part of a fashion show at the New Frontier Theater before the coronation on June 9 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Until next week, ta-ta!
