IN a bid to make the Philippines an artificial intelligence (AI) hub, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) plans to create a task force that would create the country’s AI roadmap.
”We are trying to form a task force because this is really going to affect many industries. So we need to engage with these industries, as well as with other government agencies,” DTI Undersecretary Rafaela Aldaba said.
“There is already a lot of discussion. So, hopefully by August, we will be able to present to you the plans we have crafted. It is a very broad roadmap,” she added.
She said the government had signed a memorandum of understanding on the implementation of the Filipinnovation and Entrepreneurship Roadmap.
Seven government agencies will be tapped for the project — DTI; the Departments of Science and Technology, Information and Communications Technology, Education and Agriculture; the Commission on Higher Education; and the National Economic and Development Authority.
She said the country should have the infrastructure to support new technology.
Aldaba said the government was “really putting all its efforts, formulating programs and policies that would help manufacturing and agriculture grow and develop.”
“We are removing obstacles to growth in order to enable us to attract more investments and create more and better jobs. We are strengthening our domestic supply chains,” she added.
