SEN. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go yesterday filed a bill seeking to help those affected by recent fires.
Go filed the proposed National Housing Development, Production and Financing Act of 2019 to address the issue of homelessness and illegal settlers or squatters.
In his message to fire victims in Bacoor, Cavite, whom he recently visited, Go said there were two choices available to them.
“Nakausap ko na ang NHA (National Housing Authority) para roon sa murang pabahay, at may dalawang options po kayo. Panahon na rin po na magkaroon kayo ng sarili ninyong pamamahay (I have talked to the NHA, and you have two options. It is time that you should have your own homes),” he said.
In the first option, Go explained they could form associations to be able to pay the mortgage until they fully own the land.
The other choice is availment of a government housing project in Naic, Cavite.
“Mayroon po tayong housing sa Naic at malapit lang ito. Pwede po kayong mag-avail ng murang pabahay mula sa gobyerno (The government has a housing program in Naic and it is near. You can avail of a government-sponsored housing program),” Go said.
Go said his bill seeks to ensure that every Filipino would have a home.|
“Sa susunod na mga taon, wala na dapat squatter sa sariling bayan (No Filipino should be a squatter in his own country),” he added.
The housing bill was one of the nine measures he filed in the Senate that might be taken up when the 18th Congress starts on July 22.
