PASTOR “Boy” Saycon, a man who built a reputation as a political operator, has died of pneumonia Thursday night. He was 68.
His friend and Spirit of EDSA Foundation Director Ramon Carrion confirmed his passing after receiving a text message.
Carrion told The Manila Times in a Facebook direct message that Saycon had been suffering from lung cancer. “Then he conquered cancer [and] was in remission. He celebrated his birthday en grande just last July. We were there and he seemed on the way to full recovery. We were shocked to receive a text message a few minutes after he passed away last night from pneumonia!”
According to the official Facebook page of the movie “Racing with Legends,” Saycon was described as an international rally navigator “who never lost his love for the sport.”
Saycon worked for former presidents Fidel Ramos, Joseph Ejercito Estrada and Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, as well as for President Rodrigo Duterte. He also served as a member of the EDSA People Power Commission.
His remains lie in state at the Ascension Chapel, along Araneta Avenue. His remains are scheduled to be cremated following a mass at 12 p.m. on August 12. His ashes will then be brought to St. James the Great Parish in Ayala Alabang for viewing on August 12 and 13.
