TIP targets first quarters berth vs Black Mamba

August 15, 2019

Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) seeks to clinch the first playoff spot when it takes on Black Mamba in the 2019 Philippine Basketball Association Developmental League Foundation Cup today at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

The Engineers (3-1) battle the Energy Drink (1-0) at 1:30 p.m. in Group B.

In the other games, last conference’s runner-up Centro Escolar University (2-0) shoots for the solo lead in Group A against AMA Online Education (1-2) at 3:30 p.m. while iWalk (1-1) faces winless Nailtalk-St. Dominic Savio (0-3) at 5:30 p.m.

“We’re already looking ahead. Right now, we’re 3-1 so I think we have one foot in the door of the playoffs already. We want to prepare for the playoffs as early as now,” said TIP head coach Potit De Vera.

Senegalese center Papa Ndiaye will lead the Engineers’ attack anew along with big men Ivan Santos and Bryan Santos. TIP is riding the momentum of its 133-98 beating of Italiano’s Homme last week.

Black Mamba, meanwhile, is jumping into the fray upbeat from its 86-82 triumph over fellow newcomer Alberei last August 5.

The Energy Drink crawled out of an 18 points deficit early in the fourth quarter to notch a victorious league debut.

Young mentor Vis Valencia is preparing his wards against a tough fight with TIP.

“They’re younger, they’re faster. We have to match their energy. They’re a young, running team so we have to prepare for that.”

Veteran guard Dahrell Caranguian, forward Clark Derige and playmaker Joco Tayongtong are expected to lead Black Mamba anew against the Engineers.
