Lito Legaspi, 77

Veteran film and television actor Lito Legaspi passed away due to cardiac arrest on the morning of September 8. He was 77 years old.

According to reports, he was was rushed to Cardinal Santos Memorial Medical Center in San Juan City two days previously complaining of chest pains. He died just ahead of 78th birthday on September 10.

Legaspi started in showbiz in 1959 via a comedy caper titled “Ipinagbili Kami ng Aming Tatay” with no less than Comedy King Dolphy in the lead.

Legaspi rose to fame when he was introduced by Sampaguita Pictures as a matinee idol alongside contemporaries Gina Pareno and Eddie Garcia among others.

To date, the actor has more than 120 film and TV credits to his name as well as numerous accolades including a Gawad Urian Award for Best Supporting Actor for the 1977 musical drama “Sinong Kapiling? Sinong Kasiping?”

Legaspi also portrayed former mayor and now President Rodrigo Duterte in the 1992 film “Pugoy Hostage: Davao.”

Legaspi’s was most recently seen on GMA Network’s afternoon soap “My Special Tatay” and ABS-CBN’s “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.”

Legaspi is survived by sons Zoren, Brandon, and Kier Legaspi who followed his footsteps in acting.

As of this writing, the family is holding their patriarch’s wake at Loyola Memorial Funeral Homes in Marikina City and had yet to release a statement on details of interment.
