Pirates eye solo second vs Altas

September 12, 2019

Lyceum of the Philippines University shoots for the solo second spot when it tangles with University of Perpetual Help System DALTA today in Season 95 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) seniors basketball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.

A second straight win by the Pirates (7-3) at the expense of the Altas (3-6) in the second game at 4 p.m. will free them from a deadlock at No. 2 with Colegio de San Juan de Letran.

In the opening match at 2 p.m., San Sebastian College-Recoletos (6-3) aims to sustain its winning ways in the second round and earn a solo fourth versus College of St. Benilde (6-3).

Lyceum is coming off a vengeful 93-90 victory over first-round tormentor Arellano University just two days ago.

Cameroonian center Mike Nzeusseu and Marcelino twins Jaycee and Jayvee are expected to anchor the Pirates’ attack anew.

On the other hand, Perpetual Help will try to claim a solo sixth and rebound from a 90-107 beating to San Sebastian.

The Frankie Lim-coached Altas will lean on Edgar Charcos, Ben Adamos and Kim Aurin.

Meanwhile, San Sebastian is riding the momentum of a four-win streak capped by an 85-79 win over Arellano to re-enter the top four at the end of the first round.

Egay Macaraya’s Golden Stags will rely again on veterans Allyn Bulanadi, JM Calma and RK Ilagan to keep their roll going.

But TY Tang’s Blazers are eager to get back on the winning track after suffering a 64-88 rout to Colegio de San Juan de Letran last Friday.

CSB will bank on Kendrix Belgica and Yankie Haruna while hoping that Justin Gutang, Clement Leutcheu and Edward Dixon will bounce back from their lackluster efforts in the previous outing.
