Yes, she has always been a target of bashers and “negatrons” for more than three years now but as she ages, she has matured emotionally as well.
In The Know sat down with Jessy Mendiola at an intimate get-together organized by SkinCell Advanced Aesthetics Clinics, whose dermatologists now maintain her beautiful skin and body.
Just like her physical attributes, Jessy’s aura radiates with positivity these days. She is definitely more confident than before and quotes the clinic’s slogan to say she’s a “Beauty In Progress.”
“I’m just happier now. I’m in a better position. Mas masaya if deadma lang [to negativity].
Jessy gratefully says that she’s successfully turned the tables so that what once hurt her doesn’t have the same effect anymore. In fact, the 27-year-old actress has truly risen above her trolls, instead finding herself stopping boyfriend Luis Manzano and her mother from replying to her detractors.
“Sila na nga ngayon ang mas affected. Sinasabi ko hayaan mo lang sila,” the pretty and headstrong lady giggled.
Jessy also expressed her gratitude toward boyfriend Luis who has been a positive influence even in her career.
“Ano siya, he’s very supportive. Siya yung maliit na boses sa likod ko na kapag pakiramdam niya na hindi okay sa akin, sasabihin talaga niya.”
She clarified nonetheless that Luis will never insist on anything she doesn’t agree with.
“He’s more of like, ‘Are you sure, you want to do this? Are you sure you’re going to be happy doing this?’ ganun siya. ‘If it’s not making you happy, then don’t do it.’
“Si Luis meron siyang tulong and but at the same time, he gives you the liberty to decide on your own. Hindi siya yung, ‘Ako ang magde-decide or whatever.’ Support lang. And if he feels that it’s hurting you, and if he feels na it’s not good for you, sasabihin niya.”
Besides Luis, Jessy is fortunate that even her possible future M-I-L (Mother-In-Law) Lipa City Representative Vilma Santos-Recto, mom of the TV host-actor, guides her in her career.
“And in fairness din naman talaga, sabi n’yo nga, galing siya sa entertainment family, sina Tita Vi, nagsasabi din sa akin na, ‘Sure ka ba?’”
A few months back, Jessy left her mother network’s talent management arm Star Magic to join seasoned veteran June Rufino’s talent pool, who also manages Luis’ career. Her new circumstance has made Jessy more independent and closer to her public and clients without having to move around with a road manager.
“Wala akong bad blood sa Star Magic. Nagpaalam ako nang maayos. And sila Mr. M (Johnny Manahan), Tita Mariole (Alberto), they were very understanding. Sabi nila sa akin, ‘Dadating talaga sa point na ganyan, eh.’ Kasi, marami din naman talagang artista na nagta-try na mag-explore sa ibang bagay. So, pinayagan nila ako. Walang struggle or whatever.”
Going back to Jessy and Luis, amid the constant questions that hound their relationship, the actress says what matters more for them is the truth — and that is to settle down in the future.
“Oo, napag-uusapan na namin. Kahit nga yung kulay (motif) napag-uusapan na namin. Pero siyempre, di ko muna sasabihin. Secret muna.”
Despite their colorful past relationship stories, Jessy says Luis is now the marrying type and that their 12-year age gap is just perfect.
“Hinintay niya lang din talaga ako… Pero ganun talaga. Pero, di ba, ganun talaga ang life? Kaya din tumatagal ang isang relasyon because you are meant to be with each other. Yun nga ang nangyari sa amin. Siguro, meant to be na nagkakasundo kaming dalawa kaya tumagal kami nang ganito. Kahit nga kami, nagugulat nga din kami, ‘Aba, three years na tayo!’”
Jessy says that she barely fights with Luis and she gets along with him so well, she doesn’t mind being asked about settling down with him because she knows that is where their relationship is headed.
“Ano lang, dati mas nape-pressure pa ako. Pero ngayon, kasi nga, sabi ko nga kay Luis, ‘Siguro ganun na yung vibe natin, ‘no? Pakasal na yung next step natin. Kasi ganun na yung napapakita natin sa mga tao.’”
Until next week!
