Huge is an understatement to describe multi-awarded singing legend, entertainment icon and undisputed Jukebox Queen of the Philippines Imelda Papin upcoming concert to celebrate her 45th year in show business. Currently vice governor of Camarines Sur, the Sentimental Songstress is excited to go live on stage, she says, to thank everyone who had helped make all her dreams come true.
Having carved a niche in the annals of Philippine music history for such classics as “Bakit,” “Hindi Ko Kaya” and “Isang Linggong Pag-ibig” among many others, Papin recalls in a media conference how her dream to become a singer started when she was a little girl in a small coastal village in Bitaogan, Camarines Sur. She would join and sing in church processions until she found the courage to compete in an amateur singing contest in Bicol City. It was the local version of the iconic “Tawag ng Tanghalan” and she started becoming the weekly winner to become the undefeated champion of the season.
Her family soon migrated to Manila to seek better opportunities. She studied by day and sang in small venues at night earning as little as P5, determined to pursue her dream until one day, she found herself singing in legitimate performance venues, taking her talent all around Asia. In fact, Papin was considered a superstar in Bangkok, Thailand where she was officially dubbed as Asia’s Sentimental Songstress. When she returned to the Philippines, the music industry immediately embraced her as the newest singing sensation with her heartfelt and sincere performances.
With so much to celebrate indeed, Papin wants as many of her fans, colleagues and everyone who helped her music career to join her on her special night.
“We really wanted sana to mount the concert for free but the venue we chose is quite expensive. But ticket prices have been made affordable to accommodate more concertgoers since this is my way of giving back the love that all my fans have given me all these years,” she shares.
“We also will make it as easy for them to come watch at Philippine Arena, with the show starting at 6 p.m. para hindi sila masyadong gabihin and then free shuttles for those who need them.”
Dubbed “Imelda Papin: Queen@45,” the concert unfolds on October 26, with her special guests Andrew E., April Boy Regino, Claire dela Fuente, Darius Razon, Eva Eugenio, Jovit Baldlvino, Marco Sison, Pilita Corrales, Sonny Parsons with Hagibis and Victor Wood. Also joining her daughter Maria France (Maffi) with her three kids Keif, Zach and Xavier, sisters Gloria and Aileen, Garry Cruz and Millennial Artist LA Santos, who remade Isang Linggong Pag-Ibig this year into a major hit.
Produced by DreamWings Production and Papin Entertainment Productions, part of the show’s proceeds will benefit the humanitarian projects of the IAP Foundation. Log on to smtickets.com for more details.
