New on-demand service to upgrade ‘reality’ concept

October 08, 2019

A video-on-demand (SVOD) subscription service is now available in the Philippines. NBCUniversal International launched hayu — the all-reality service — which simultaneously expanded to Singapore and Hong Kong.

The direct-to-consumer platform is available on a full array of devices: mobile, tablet and web via hayu.com.

Targeting the broad base of viewers who are fans of the reality genre, Hayu combines a unique user experience with the best in over-the-top (OTT) technology.

Beyond being the single source for top reality content — including “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” and its spin-offs, along with “The Real Housewives,” “Million Dollar Listing” and “Below Deck” franchises, “Dance Moms” and “Vanderpump Rules” — the personalized service offers users the ability to download favorite reality shows to view on the go, without access to the internet.

Hayu positions itself as an ‘all-reality’ service.

This means subscribers can watch episodes of their favorite shows anywhere from their daily commutes to the gym or the beach. Search functionality and targeted content recommendations mean users can discover endless hours of content to binge on with quick access to their favorite shows and categories.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring Hayu, and its world-class reality TV content, to the community of super fans in The Philippines. We spoke to our potential subscribers and we now know how popular this genre is among Filipinos and how much they love keeping up with the latest storylines and having access to full-length episodes all in one place,” NBCUniversal International Branded On-Demand Senior Vice President Hendrik McDermott said, adding that “hayu is a great success in 11 other countries and we knew that the Philippines needed to be the next step in our global expansion.”

The on-demand platform was launched in the UK, Ireland and Australia in March 2016, followed by Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark in November 2017. The most recent territory expansion includes Canada in September 2018 followed by the Benelux in December 2018.
