TNT stakes clean card versus Northport

October 09, 2019

Undefeated TNT KaTropa goes for fifth straight win when it plays Northport tonight in Season 44 Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.

Game time is set 4:30 p.m.

Despite their four-game winning streak, TNT head coach Bong Ravena is not satisfied with their overall defensive plays after their last two opponents — Phoenix Pulse (123-118) and Columbian Dyip (125-120) — were able to score 100 above points.

“We are concerned about the way we run our defense. We have to do better. We’re worried because we are giving away 100 points in defense and we’re just lucky that we were able to escape in our last two games,” Ravena told The Manila Times in a phone interview.

Another concern for Ravena was that they haven’t won in their last few games against Northport in the elimination round of the Philippine Cup and Commissioner’s Cup.

But import KJ McDaniels could give TNT a different ending this time against Northport. The former Houston Rockets import is averaging 34.7 points, 15.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 4.2 blocks in four games.

The Batang Pier, after winning their first game against Rain or Shine, suffered three straight defeats including the 98-107 loss to Blackwater in Antipolo City. They are holding a 1-3 win-loss record.

Meanwhile, Rain or Shine (1-3 win-loss record) and Phoenix Pulse (1-4) seek to recover from previous defeats when they collide in 7 p.m. second game.
