Viva unleashes last quarter blockbusters

October 23, 2019

After setting the duo of fearless director/writer Daryl Yap and daring young actress Kim Molina free on unsuspecting moviegoers in the surprise box-office winner “Jowable,” Viva Films is not slowing down with new releases through the end of 2019.

The movie company’s last quarter salvo begins today with the opening of Pop Princess Sarah Geronimo’s much-awaited solo-starrer, “Unforgettable,” directed by Jun Robles Lana and Percy Intalan. In her most demanding role to date, the singer-actress plays a woman afflicted with Asperger’s Syndrome who takes it upon herself to go on a trip to be with her ailing grandmother. She makes the long, difficult journey accompanied by an adorable stray dog she calls Happy.

Up next on November 6 is “Nuuk (A Sub-Zero Love Affair),” the romantic thriller starring Aga Muhlach and Alice Dixon, directed by Veronica Velasco. (See banner story).

Sarah Geronimo’s ‘Unforgettable’ (above) kicks off the movie company’s slate of offerings before the close of 2019, which also includes the Indonesian remake of ‘Kita Kita’ remake, ‘Cinta Itu Buta’ (below).

“Cinta Itu Buta (Love is Blind),” then opens on November 13, which as The Manila Times Entertainment earlier reported is the Bahasa language remake of the runaway box-office winner “Kita Kita” with Alessandra De Rossi and Empoy Marquez. The new version directed by Rachmania Arunita tells the same story of a blind girl and her caring neighbor starring Indonesia’s top actors Shandy Aulia and Dodit Mulyanto.

“Adan,” which tackles the effects of a sexually-charged romance between two women shows a week later on November 20. Written and produced by the award-winning Yam Laranas, it stars the gorgeous duo of Rhen Escano and Cindy Miranda and tell the story of how a farmer’s daughter escapes her impoverished existence in the rice fields to find a new exciting life with her best friend. Adan is directed by Roman Perez Jr.

“Mañanita,” produced by TEN17P Films for Viva, next opens in theaters on December 4. Written by the internationally acclaimed Lav Diaz, the movie is directed by Paul Soriano and stars Bela Padilla as a former military officer on the path of revenge against the killers of her parents. Mananita is the lone Philippine entry in competition to the Tokyo International Film Festival 2019 where it is set to premier on October 29.

Finally, capping 2019 for Viva Films is the local remake of the heartwarming Korean blockbuster Miracle in Cell No.7 starring Aga Muhlach anew. This is Viva’s official entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival.
