The UEFA Champions League is back in action. The Round of 16 started Tuesday with defending champion Liverpool dropping its first-leg match against Atletico Madrid, 1-0.
Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain also played Tuesday. Neymar’s status had been up in the air, but he played and scored — but that still wasn’t enough to overcome Dortmund, which won the first leg 2-1.
First-leg matches of the Round of 16 continue on Wednesday. Leipzig is making its first appearance in this stage of the Champions League. Tottenham comes in on the other end of the spectrum after making it all the way to the final last season. Atalanta also makes its Champions League Round of 16 of debut against a Valencia team that topped Group H ahead of Chelsea.
Ranking the Champions League final 16: Can anyone dethrone Liverpool?
Champions League schedule 2020
Wednesday, Feb. 19
|3 p.m. ET||Atalanta vs. Valencia||B/R Live|
|3 p.m. ET||Tottenham Hotspur vs. RB Leipzig||TNT|
Atalanta vs. Valencia lacks the big names of the other teams playing this week, but it might be the best duel of them all. It’s no secret Atalanta wants to stay on the attack. If Valencia can keep Atalanta from lighting up the scoreboard, then its counter attacks could prove vital.
Tottenham comes in on a three-match winning streak, but it hasn’t been overly impressive. Without Harry Kane, the Spurs face a tough task against Leipzig. The concern with Leipzig is the relative inexperience on the roster. No player on the squad has made it this far, but will it matter?
