To bible-believing Christians, the word Armageddon is fraught with frightful speculations of the end-epoch of our present age before the second coming of Christ. Armageddon is where the bloodiest war will take place. This is what the Holy Bible prophesies. The Battle of Armageddon is one of the prophecies in the Holy Bible that is NOT yet fulfilled.

The word Armageddon appears only once from a single verse in the Holy Bible, namely in Revelation 16:16. Thus:

“And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.”(King James Version)

The Battle of Armageddon is considered the battle of all battles because it will be the Antichrist who will lead the evil forces against God. The fighting nations will come from all directions unlike other battles where usually invasion comes from one place.

Way back in the late seventies, a Norwegian scientist assisted by historians from various countries made a study of past wars using an electronic computer. The findings of the scientist were very revealing. The scientist found out that in a period of more than 55 centuries (since 3600 B.C.) there were at least 14,531 wars (big and small), where more than 3.6 billion people perished. The Battle of Armageddon, compared to the past battles and wars will be the biggest of all times. From the Books of Zachariah, Revelation and Isaiah of the Holy Bible, we can glean that the battlefield will stretch for a distance of approximately two hundred miles (sixteen hundred furlongs). At the center of the fighting area will be Jerusalem. Millions of men, (some speculate that the people will be about 200 million) will gather in the battlefield. Compare this figure with the total number of the soldiers in World War II on both sides of the conflict which did not exceed 50 million.

The site of Armageddon is also where a number of biblical battles took place. This is where David defeated Goliath as narrated in the Book of 1 Samuel of the Old Testament. It was also the same place where Gideon defeated the Midianites as mentioned in the Book of Judges. It was in the same place that the Philistines killed Saul as recorded in the Book of 1 Samuel.

One question that keeps bugging many people is why is it that the nations of the world will be drawn to the area of Armageddon. We can only speculate. But this does not in any way hinder the fulfillment of the prophecy on the Battle of Armageddon. For a simple reason. Our almighty, sovereign, and omnipotent God prophesied this Battle of Armageddon himself.

The Battle of Armageddon is a stark reminder to all of us that we should live the day as if it were our last day. And continue to thank our Lord God for our blessings, especially the gift of life.

People are talking about Israel’s role in the Battle of Armageddon. While people’s assessment of the political, economic, and military situation of Israel vary, one thing is certain. That Israel has repeatedly been threatened as a nation in the past, in the present, and, based on Biblical prophecies, in the future too. Small as it maybe, Israel is the nation to watch. From the perspective of a bible-believing Christian, it is as if the world se is being set in Israel for the fulfillment of the terrifying prophecies on the Battle of Armageddon. Unbelievably too, the nations playing major roles in the Battle of Armageddon are now taking their places as predicted in the Holy Bible. As if an unseen world se director is directing the events taking place, using the Biblical prophecies as the script for the final act. With these incidents happening, many of us cannot help but speculate that the world is rushing towards Armageddon.
