The Blue Jays’ front office has told players that Pittsburgh’s PNC Park and Baltimore’s Camden Yards are potential sites for home games this season with the team barred from playing in Toronto due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Canadian government is not allowing teams from the United States to cross the border to play games at Rogers Centre, leaving the Blue Jays scrambling for a place to play.

Another option is to play at the Blue Jays’ Triple-A affiliate in Buffalo, New York, but that stadium’s facilities are not currently up to MLB standards.

“We’ve heard Buffalo. We’ve heard Baltimore possibly. We’ve heard Pittsburgh possibly,” Blue Jays outfielder Randal Grichuk said on Tuesday before an exhibition game in Boston.

“To this moment I’ve heard not a definite place to play yet. It’s kind of still up in the air, which is crazy this close to opening day. Luckily, we start on the road. But yeah, that’s what we’re hearing. Possibly Pittsburgh or Baltimore. Worst case, Buffalo.”

The Pirates seem open to the idea of having the Blue Jays play in their park.

“In an effort to help in the return of the game we all love, we continue to have active discussions with Major League Baseball and the Toronto Blue Jays organisation regarding the possibility of hosting games for the Blue Jays at PNC Park this season,” the Pirates said in a statement.

“This will be a monumental challenge for our staff but leaning to help others is what Pittsburghers do best.”

After opening the season with three games at Tampa Bay and two at Washington, the Blue Jays’ first scheduled home game is on July 29 against the Nationals.

The Blue Jays considered playing home games at their spring training facility in Dunedin, Florida, but that is among the states that are virus hotspots.
