Oracle, the world’s largest database management company, has identified the telecom sector as the main driver of its business in the Philippines followed by banks and the government.
Cherian Varghese, managing director of Oracle ASEAN/SAGE regions, reported during a regional virtual press conference on “The Road ahead for ASEAN businesses: Building resiliency and developing adaptable organizations” of the company’s growing business in the ASEAN region.
For the Philippines, Varghese said there are three major growth trends here, but stressed that telecom is the its number one growth driver. This is also the common denominator in all of its businesses among ASEAN countries.
“The telecom business is showing great promise. A common denominator for all ASEAN business, telecom is moving faster into 5G. It has a very outstanding and compelling story, Oracle is part and parcel of their digital journey,” he said.
Without naming names, Varghese said that one of the biggest telcos in the Philippines is embarking on a big “digital board” where Oracle is also working with and facilitating to help telco vendors realize extraordinary returns.
Aside from the telco sector, Varghese said the banking sector is also making headways as payment gateways making it a robust business in the country.
“The only sector that has slowed down in investment in some form in the Philippines is the government,” he said as he noted that the Philippine government has been busy in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, pumping lots of money and physical resources to contain the spread of the virus.
But Varghese said the Philippine government is a huge base for Oracle.
“We have active proposals with the government,” he said expressing hopes for the Duterte administration to be back on its digital journey in the next few months.
In the same presscon, Varghese also announced Oracle’s plan to hike its public data cloud centers from the current 24 locations to 34 to strengthen its position as the biggest in the world and the largest footprint in the cloud-based computing.
Referring to the still evolving COVID-19 pandemic, Varghese advised companies to strive to make a difference whether it is in medical or other sectors through digital technology.
“Digital transformation is the way forward and Oracle is a strategic partner with over 5,000 employees who can help make an impactful transformation for our customers,” he said.
Driven by strong customer demand, Oracle recently announced Oracle Dedicated Region [email protected], the industry’s first fully-managed cloud region that brings all of Oracle’s second-generation cloud services, including Autonomous Database and Oracle Cloud applications, to customer datacenters.
Until today, no solution was able to bridge the gap. On-premises offerings from other cloud providers offer a very small subset of the services available in their public cloud regions.
With this offering, Oracle is making all of its cloud services — more than 50 services — available on-premises so enterprises can use Oracle’s cloud services wherever they need them – in the cloud or on-premises via [email protected]
This is ideal for highly regulated or security-focused businesses needing to meet demanding latency and data residency requirements, reduce operational costs, and modernize legacy applications.
He noted that in today’s “new normal,” organizations must reconcile with workforce changes and find new ways to engage with customers. Governments and businesses alike are finding ways to address the economic impact and mitigate supply chain volatility and risks.
“As a result of the current situation, customers we’re speaking to come to us with two things on their mind – how to plan for a contingency and how to bulletproof or future-proof their current IT operations.
The cloud presents itself as an attractive and flexible option for organizations to accelerate the standardization and automation required to enable business continuity, while planning ahead,” said Varghese.
For business users, Oracle offers a complete suite of Software as a Service (SaaS) or cloud-based application services. These services are ready-to-use solutions that enable users to automate sales and marketing activities, human resources operations, enterprise planning, financial management, supply chain management, and so on.
While the market is seeing an accelerated interest in cloud adoption, some businesses are still hindered from taking the leap by security concerns and data residency regulations.
