BAGUIO CITY — Joint operatives arrested a couple during a drug buy-bust operation in Barangay Loakan Proper here Wednesday night.

Elements of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Cordillera, Baguio City Police Office, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Baguio and the Cordillera Police collared cab driver Patrick Roger Loyola Catbagan, 33, of Barangay South Sanitary Camp and his girlfriend, 28-year-old Maryjane Bautista Nunag, an entertainer from Bacolor, Pampanga.

Intelligence Agent 1 Renier Tinong, chief of the PDEA-Cordillera Regional Special Enforcement Team, supervised the sting operation.

The couple was caught selling a gram of suspected shabu worth P5,000 to an undercover government agent right inside their apartment.

Also seized from their hideout were three heat-sealed sachets of shabu weighing a total of 14 grams valued at P95,200.

Nunag’s fellow entertainers in a night club are reportedly among their clients.

Catbagan was first arrested on 6 November 2015, also on illegal drug charges, but was acquitted less than three years later.

He was on the target list of the PDEA while Nunag was a newly identified drug personality.

The suspects reportedly got their wares in bulk from the lowlands. They continued selling even if nightclubs were closed because of community quarantine restrictions.

Shabu, or crystal meth, is the drug of choice for 90 percent of Filipino drug users, according to studies.

A shabu user often suffers from weight loss, has hened energy and may stay awake for days and talks excessively. The user is also constantly thirsty and drink fluids but still has dry lips.

A person addicted to shabu will exhibit rapid mood changes, disinterest in activities, hallucinations, paranoia, constant confusion, insomnia and respiratory problems.
