Senator Christopher “Bong” Go today vowed to go after government agencies that will taint with corruption the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act signed into law by President Rodrigo Duterte last Friday with P165.5 billion in funding for coronavirus mitigation measures.
He said that the President made it clear that he wants the utilization of the Bayanihan 2 fund to be transparent and fully accounted for.
“We will make sure the money benefits the nation, the most affected among our countrymen and that public service and helping our people will know no time,” Go said in Filipino.
Of the money, P140 billion was allotted under regular appropriation while the P25.5 billion will serve as standby funds.
Republic Act 11494 or Bayanihan 2 seeks to finance healthcare system improvement, a cash-for-work program, assistance to industries affected by the pandemic and the procurement of COVID-19 vaccines and other supplies.
Go said vigilance, cooperation and compassion are needed if Filipinos are to survive the pandemic and come out stronger with a better healthcare system.
He also assured that the poor and vulnerable sectors will be prioritized once a vaccine for the disease is available.
