Cusi awarded NCIP 2020 IP advocate

The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) recently recognized Energy Secretary and Cabinet Officer for Regional Development and Security (CORDS) for Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan) Alfonso Cusi as the 2020 IP Advocate and Champion for Region 4-B.

Said award bestowed on Cusi was in celebration of Indigenous Peoples’ (IP) Month and the 23rd year of the Indigenous Peoples’ Rights Act of 1997.

NCIP regional director Roberto Almonte presented the award to Cusi in recognition of his unwavering support to the region’s Indigenous Cultural Communities and Ips during a simple ceremony held last Wednesday at the Department of Energy (DoE) main office.

“It is a great honor to receive this award from the NCIP. All the work we have been doing is in fulfillment of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s call for lasting peace throughout our nation. We need peace to effectively spur sustainable and inclusive development in the Philippines,” Cusi said.

Also present were DoE Undersecretary Alexander Lopez, CORDS Mimaropa Technical Working Group Members Pacifico Avenido Jr., Rodolfo Magtibay, and Dr. Adrianna Mabanta and Greg Gudito who represented former Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco Jr.
