Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente on Thursday slammed alleged reports of Bureau of Immigration (BI) agents overcharging the arriving ships at the Port Capinpin in Orion Bataan.
He was referring to social media posts reporting alleged corruption activities at the Bataan Port, wherein ships were said to be overcharged $600 for immigration boarding formalities.
Morente immediately ordered an investigation.
According to BI- Bataan Alien Control Officer Bayani Agosto Ferrer, an inter-agency committee had already conducted an investigation to check the veracity of the report.
He added that when the documents were presented to them during the meeting, they were surprised to find out that it was signed by a certain Conrado Bustamante and Armichael Policarpio. However, they don’t have employees with those names.
Records show that the fake employees charged as much as P20,000 to an arriving vessel, supposedly as payment for immigration inspection.
Ferrer said that they even had the audacity to give fake invoices using the BI’s logo to be able to illegally charge these fees.
