QUINCENTENNIAL JUBILEE OF CHRISTIANITY IN THE PHILIPPINES
PROCLAMATION AND LAUNCH

The Philippine Consulate General in Toronto would like to invite the Filipino Canadian community to virtually join the Proclamation and Launch of the Quincentennial Jubilee of Christianity in the Philippines (QJCP) to be held on Friday, 23 October 2020 at 5:30 pm (EST) via the link: bit.ly/qjcp500.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions on indoor gatherings, there will only be a small number of people allowed at the in-person signing and launch to be held at the Catholic Education Centre of the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) for the official signing of the Proclamation and launch of the commemorative activities in schools under the TCDSB. We enjoin everyone to join the live streaming (Virtual Link: bit.ly/qjcp500) of this historic event whereby a foreign government’s agency, the TCDSB, recognizes the 500th year anniversary of the arrival of Christianity in the Philippines. The Proclamation was unanimously approved by the TCDSB’s Board of Trustees on 17 September 2020. The proclamation recognizes and honors the rich history, contributions, dynamic culture, and vibrant Christian faith of the Philippines and the Filipinos.

The Signing of the Proclamation and Launch event will officially start with the celebration of the Holy Mass and will also include the launch and announcement of the Call for Entries for the Art Competition organized by the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto in celebration of the Quincentennial Commemoration of the Philippines 2021 (QCP 2021), with the support of the Philippines’ National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA), and in collaboration with the TCDSB. A separate announcement on the Art Competition will be released immediately after the above event.

During the event, the Consulate General will also donate to the TCDSB facsimile copies of the
two (2) novels authored by Dr. Jose P. Rizal – Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo.
