Smuggled cigarettes

Bureau of Customs Port of Cebu recently destroyed an estimated P374-million worth of confiscated smuggled cigarettes in compliance with commissioner Rey Guerrero’s order to “speedily dispose of seized goods to prevent port congestion, avoid pilferage and generate additional revenues for the government.”

The port’s Enforcement and Security Service, Operations division and Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service, together with the Philippine Coast Guard and Philippine National Police, supervised the transport of the eight containers from the port to the destruction facility in Barangay Binaliw, Cebu City.

The containers from China were apprehended between June to September.
