Christmas shines through crisis

Amid a crisis, Christmas was still bright.

This, despite Filipinos being beset by challenges in 2020: from the eruption of Taal Volcano in January, the spread of another coronavirus causing Covid-19, to the ravages of a series of typhoons “Quinta,” “Rolly” and “Ulysses” in the latter part of the year.

But there’s no defeating the Filipino. Even after the ordeal, there is a bright Christmas to behold.

This is the message that One Meralco Foundation (OMF), the corporate foundation of Meralco, wants to convey to communities that have been severely affected by disasters.

In collaboration with the MVP Group of Companies’ “Tuloy Pa Rin Ang Pasko” campaign, OMF distributed more than 1,000 noche buena packages to various communities in the Meralco franchise area this Christmas, including 250 health care workers and indigent patients at the East Avenue Medical Center in Quezon City.

Apart from the Meralco donation, the employees of the electric company also contributed, so that more families could be reached with the help of OMF this Christmas.

Among the beneficiaries of the program are 100 families affected by the floods caused by typhoon “Ulysses” in Rodriguez, Rizal; more than 100 fishermen on the island of Cagbalete, Mauban, Quezon; more than 100 Dumagat natives in Doña Remedios Trinidad, Bulacan, recently reached by Meralco’s electricity service; tricycle and jeepney drivers in the University Belt area who lost their jobs to the pandemic; 100 tricycle drivers in San Pascual, Batangas; and more than 100 persons with disability in Pandacan, Manila.

It is natural for Filipinos to be resilient. No matter what blow comes in our lives, we still get to be happy and celebrate one of the most important occasions in our lives: Christmas

“It is natural for Filipinos to be resilient. No matter what blow comes in our lives, we still get to be happy and celebrate one of the most important occasions in our lives: Christmas,” OMF president Jeffrey Tarayao explained. “The trials many of us have experienced this year have been intense, but, at the end of it all, we still have hope brought by the light of Christmas.”

In collaboration with the MVP Group of Companies’ “Tuloy Pa Rin Ang Pasko” campaign, OMF distributed more than 1,000 noche buena packages to various communities in the Meralco franchise area this Christmas.
