In an article published on ABS-CBN, he described the film as “inspirational.”
He also shared the movie will tackle the late star’s humbling beginnings, his success, as with the challenges he encountered prior to his passing last year from various complications relating to health problems.
“He sets an example to all aspiring talents in terms of facing struggles. Patunayan mo sarili mo, kahit ano mangyari. He did it on his own, walang nagturo sa kanya. Everything that he aspired for, nagawa niya,” Efren related.
The biopic will be financed by April Boy’s friend, Marynette Gamboa of Waterplus Productions.
Though already with a storyboard, the cast has not been finalized yet.
Efren said they are eyeing the possibility of having April Boy’s son, JC, to play his father.
According to Marynette, JC shares the same vocal range and charisma of his father.
“Kinilabutan nga ako nang marinig ko kwento niya nu’ng magkasama kami sa Cagayan de Oro. Tapos nakita ko kung paano siya sinasamba ng mga tao sa mga shows duon, kaya sabi ko kailangan makita din ito sa pelikula,” Marynette said.
