The president of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) in Hinunangan, Southern Leyte, was arrested following a buy-bust operation where authorities were able to recover some P82,000 worth of suspected shabu.
The suspect was identified as ABC president Romeo Saturinas who also serves as an ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Bayan, according to a report from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Eastern Visayas.
The suspect, a resident and chairman of Barangay Pondol, was listed as a high-value target in the regional campaign against illegal drugs, the local police said in a separate report.
Agents of PDEA, backed by members of the Southern Leyte provincial police and Hinunangan police, carried out the operation around in Barangay Cagnipaan.
Saturinas was arrested after an undercover operative managed to buy a medium-sized plastic sachet of shabu for P20,000 from him, police said.
He was found in possession of another medium-sized sachet and two small sachets, all containing suspected shabu, when frisked.
The contraband weighed 12.1862 grams when examined by chemists, according to the PDEA.
Also seized from the suspect included a matchbox where the sachets of shabu were hidden, the P1,000 bill and fake P19,000 cash used in the sting, a wallet, cellphone and a motorcycle, police said.
Saturinas was placed under the custody of the local police following his arrest.
