Construction starts for Sulu’s first interconnecting bridge

ZAMBOANGA CITY — The municipal government of Bangui-ngui in Sulu province announced it is ready to begin construction of a concrete bridge connecting two of its major island barangays.

The P210 million funding for the 500-meter two-lane bridge was borrowed from a government bank and will connect the Bucutua and Bulaan, the most densely populated island barangays of the said town.

Mayor Whajid Sahidulla noted that the main bridge will be connected to an arterial road connecting the bridge and the circumferential roads in the two islands.

“This is one of our major infrastructure and development projects in the town to attract more traders to do business with us,” Sahidulla said

Said to be the first bridge in the province to connect two island villages, it is expected to generate more economic activities for the people of the two villages particularly those engaged in the trading of high valued fish.
