Gen Z’s are cancelling Eminem on TikTok because of ‘Love the Way You Lie’ lyrics

The award-winning rapper claps back with a new song titled ‘Tone Deaf’

SLIM SHADY IN THE HOUSE After the online backlash, Eminem drops a new song (@Eminem)

At some time in February 2021, a social media campaign from Generation Z TikTok users that aims to cancel the Grammy and Oscar-winning rapper Eminem over the controversial lyrics of the song “Love the You Lie” has kicked-off.

In a now-deleted post of an uploader who reportedly ignited this cancel campaign, argued that the 2010 hit song glorifies domestic violence. This chart-topping song that features another award-winning artist Rihanna describes the danger of being trapped in a toxic and abusive relationship.

This cancel campaign didn’t sit well with the rapper’s fans. Millennials even uploaded videos on the said social media platform to defend Eminem.

Meanwhile, “The View”co-host Meghan McCain went on Twitter telling Gen-Zers that “Eminemn will not be cancelled.”

Clapping back

Following the backlash, the Detroit rapper dropped a new song titled “Tone Deaf” last Friday, March 6, 2021. And the lyrics of the song seem like his way of clapping back to this cancel culture.

“I won’t stop even when my hair turns grey (I’m tone-deaf) / ‘Cause they won’t stop until they cancel me,” Eminem wrote on Twitter alongside a preview video of his new single.

This is not the first time Eminem has faced controversies by using his platform to talked about societal issues or even to call out the attention of some individuals. Back in 2019, Buzzfeed reported that the rapper was interviewed by The US Secret Service over threatening lyrics against former US President Donald Trump and his daughter Ivanka.
