More tremors rock Taal Volcano

State seismology bureau Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a total of 270 volcanic earthquakes and 193 episodes of volcanic tremor in Taal Volcano in the past 24 hours.

Phivolcs said that the number of volcanic earthquakes was higher than the 268 recorded on Thursday and the duration of the recent volcanic activities were recorded from one to 12 minutes.

The seismology bureau added that 77 low frequency volcanic earthquakes were monitored, way higher than the 25 reported the previous day.

A weak emission of steam-laden plumes from fumarolic vents in the Main Crater was observed, reaching up to 10 meters. Sulfur dioxide emission that averaged 925 tons per day was measured on Thursday.

Taal Volcano remains under Alert Level 2, which means “increased unrest.”
