KALIBO, Aklan — The local government of Kalibo has called on the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to kickstart road widening projects here to help spur economic development.
In a statement, Kalibo Vice Mayor Cynthia de la Cruz said that she filed a resolution asking the DPWH to widen and improve roads in Sitio Libtong in Barangay Estancia, Kalibo.
“I urged the DPWH-Aklan especially to District Engineer Alejandro Ventilacion for the project as an alternative road going to the different barangays of Kalibo,” De la Cruz said.
To recall, the Kalibo Sangguniang Bayan, in its desire to make Kalibo competitive at the level of transportation, have formulated the transportation and traffic management plan which aims to lay down the foundation of growth in a short and long term process that will basically address the present and future transport system.
“Libtong Road in Sitio Libtong, Barangay Estancia is classified as an old provincial road based on the 1931 cadastral survey of Kalibo which is an important road network leading to and from the Central Business and Institutional District of the Municipality of Kalibo and serve as an alternative or secondary road used to re-route and help traffic congestion along crossing Rotunda intersections especially during Kalibo Sto. Nino Ati-atihan Festival,” De la Cruz said.
The two-way vehicle condition of the road is taking a heavy toll on the motorists and commuters considering that this road is a busy thoroughfare in that barangay being an alternative or secondary transport road network.
