NARVACAN, Ilocos Sur — As part of the town’s digitalization program, town Mayor Chavit Singson disclosed on Wednesday that he had distributed free state-of-the-art multi-purpose credit card to town residents — the first ever in the country.
In a statement, Singson — who is also the president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines — that the multi-purpose credit cards were first given to municipal and barangay officials of Narvacan.
The mayor added that once his constituents have all received their cards, he will provide the same cards to the people of Ilocos Sur and then the whole of Region 1.
Singson assured that the digitalization program will be duplicated in other regions and if possible, the whole country.
The Narvacan mayor — who was also a long-time governor of Ilocos Sur — explained that the multi-purpose credit card will be connected to bank nets, bank accounts and credit cards since it is equipped with several applications programmed by his daugther Richelle Singson, an IT expert who is the chief executive of the Gracia telecom.
“The application is expensive, but I am giving the cards for free to help our people in this time of pandemic,” Singson said.
Singson added that the multi-purpose cards can be used for sending money, noting that the card needs no maintaining balance unlike other banks and can be also used in fund transfer to banks and online cash transfer applications.
