Religious gatherings in Boracay restricted

BORACAY Island, Malay — The local government of Malay, Aklan on Thursday announced that it has restricted all of the religious gatherings in this resort island because of the surge of the number of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases here.

In a statement, acting Malay Mayor Floribar Bautista said that as of 7 April 2021, the Municipal Health Office recorded 91 active Covid-19 cases.

To recall, Bautista ordered on 1 April that the central part of Boracay — Barangay Balabag — will be placed under the enhanced community quarantine category (ECQ) while Zones 1 to 7 of adjacent Barangay Manocmanoc has also been placed under a granular lockdown.

In a two-page copy of Executive Order 14, Bautista said that religious gatherings are only allowed at Barangay Yapak and churches should only allow 30 percent capacity for Mass goers, while only 15 persons are allowed to attend for weddings, baptisms and funerals.

Bautista also asked the technical working group composed of forced multipliers such as the Philippine National Police, barangay officials among others to monitor the implementation of the said executive order.
