The future home of aspiring and elite national athletes will rise in Bagac, Bataan in the coming years following the forged partnership of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Provincial Government of Bataan.
PSC chairman Butch Ramirez and Bataan Gov. Albert Raymond “Abet” Garcia formalized the partnership on Tuesday, May 18, with the government sports agency receiving the deed of donation of the 25-hectare land.
“I am so happy and excited about this newly forged partnership with the Provincial Government of Bataan. This will give our national athletes a new home as they continue to bring pride and honor to our country,” said Ramirez, who celebrated his 71st birthday during the ceremonial signing and turnover rites.
“It was one of the best birthday gifts.”
Gov. Garcia also thanked the PSC, saying that the project would greatly benefit the athletes who have been bringing glory to the country through sports.
A Philippine Sports Training Center (PSTC) will be constructed under Republic Act 11214 with a P3.5 billion appropriation that will be included in the annual General Appropriations Act.
The amount will carry out the provisions of the Act particularly for the maintenance, operation and management of PSTC.
One provision of the deed of donation states that the infrastructure shall be constructed and completed by December 31, 2025, subject to extension upon agreement by the parties.
Sen. Bong Go, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Youth and Sports, also graced the ceremony in support of the PSTC.
“Kapag nagtutulungan po ang ating mga atleta at ang ating gobyerno ay malayo po ang ating mararating. Rest assured na suportado po namin itong PSTC,” said Sen. Go.
Also present in the ceremony were PSC Commissioners Mon Fernandez, Arnold Agustin and Celia Kiram, Philippine Sports Institute’s National Training Director Marc Velasco, 2nd District of Bataan Representative Jose Enrique Garcia III, Municipal Mayor Maria Angela Garcia and Engr. Emmanuel Pineda.
