Cop killed, 8 hurt, 2 missing in Occ. Mindoro clash

A policeman was killed, eight more were hurt, and two were reported missing following a clash between lawmen and members of the New People’s Army in Magsaysay, Occidental Mindoro.

Members of the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company encountered an undetermined number of rebels in Sitio Banban, Brgy. San Nicolas, around 10:30 a.m., according to an initial report from the MIMAROPA regional police.

The fatality was identified as EMSgt. Jonathan Alvarez, of the 1st PMFC.

Injured were SSgts. Dexter Sagun, Edwin Vergara, Michael Sualog, Michael Enero, Nolito Develos; Cpl. Kim Jason Dimalaluan; and Patrolmen Armando Pulido and Danny Soriano, the report said.

Cpl. Stan Gonggora and Cpl. Nicolas Estocapio Jr. were reported injured.

Police have yet to disclose other details of the fighting and if there were casualties among the rebels.

Following the incident, police coordinated with “friendly forces” in the area and are conducting intelligence monitoring, the report said.
